AB Sundecks 1895 Cup Preview | Preliminary Round Two

AB Sundecks 1895 Cup Preview | Preliminary Round Two

The AB Sundecks 1895 Cup continues on Sunday, with its four Preliminary Round Two ties taking place between the remaining Betfred League One clubs.

Keighley Cougars and Midlands Hurricanes will clash at Cougar Park with a place in the First Round proper at stake.

The Cougars have won their last five meetings with the Hurricanes, although both clubs have ensured strong off-season recruitment drives and it could ultimately be anyone’s game this weekend.

Midlands were most recently in action against Super League’s Salford Red Devils in the Betfred Challenge Cup last week, competing superbly with the top tier side in the first forty. Keighley, on the other hand, have had an extra week to prepare for their 1895 Cup tie.

The winner will face Featherstone Rovers.

Newcomers Goole Vikings will take on North Wales Crusaders for the first time in history. Both teams have impressed thus far, with the Vikings recently pulling off a sensational victory against London Broncos in the Challenge Cup Second Round - in what was their first competitive fixture as a professional club.

Meanwhile, the Crusaders pushed Widnes Vikings all the way in a pulsating Third Round clash, before narrowly losing 20-26.

The winner of this tie will take on Barrow Raiders.

Also on Sunday, Workington Town and Dewsbury Rams will meet for the first time since 2023. The victorious side will then travel to the capital and play Mike Eccles' Broncos.

Finally, it's a short trip to Rochdale Hornets for Swinton Lions, and awaiting the winner are Sean Long's formidable Oldham in the next round.

The Preliminary Round Two fixtures (Sunday 16 February):

Goole Vikings v North Wales Crusaders

Workington Town v Dewsbury Rams

Rochdale Hornets v Swinton Lions

Keighley Cougars v Midlands Hurricanes
